SLO Coast Alliance is a consortium of over 30 environmental groups who have
banded together to speak out for protection and preservation of the coast and
the watersheds that run to the sea. There are over 22,000 supporters from member
organizations.
Our desire is to inform and educate the public on issues regarding the protection
of the biological, cultural, visual, and agricultural resources of the coastal
environment so all interested parties can help us achieve our objective -- protecting
the coast.
The mission of the SLO Coast Alliance is to provide information and education on issues regarding the protection of the biological, cultural, visual, and agricultural resources of the coastal environment; and provide information and education on the equitable application and administration of the California Coastal Act; and conduct research and critical review of scientific data and information relating to the coastal environment; and provide information and opportunities for empowerment so the public might take a more active and creative role in the decision-making processes that affect the coast; and increase public understanding of, and capacity for, involvement in coastal conservation issues and their equitable resolution; and to create and foster partnerships in the advancement of these goals.
The SLO Coast Alliance remains dedicated to the vision of an undeveloped and untrammeled North Coast in perpetuity, to the preservation wherever possible of historic public access to the shore, and to raising public awareness of the many sacred sites that comprise the prehistory of our coast. The Alliance will endeavor to educate the public as to the threats to agricultural, biological, visual, and cultural resources that uncontrolled growth, poorly planned development, and monoculture represent. It is the intent of the Alliance to ensure that all proposed development and intensification of use on the coast of San Luis Obispo County be in strict compliance with the Coastal Act and with the laws, ordinances, regulations and statutes of the County of San Luis Obispo, the State of California, and the United States of America.
